Long Roads

By Jeff Rolfzen & Rocky Steen-Rolfzen

Well the North Star is shining bright in the sky

Flirting there with that twilight

I have no one beside me tonight

But the cool winds are gonna treat me just right

The hillside has been fading out of sight

Soon I’ll be watching the tide

And these long roads I’ve traveled

I have travelled alone

I unravelled myself down to the bone

And I will let that dust settle

I will let them weeds grow

And when you see fresh tracks you’ll know I have gone

You got your smokes bit of whiskey and beer

Yeah you can find just about anything you might need out here

I will lay it all out on the trail

Where your heartaches and your sorrows all become tales

So it’s cornbread and bit of honey tonight

Let the coals play their concert in that firelight

And these long roads I’ve traveled

I have travelled alone

I unravelled myself down to the bone

And I will let that dust settle

I will let them weeds grow

And when you see fresh tracks you’ll know I have gone

Day breaks on the mourning dove’s song

Yeah the two of us best be moving along

Morning brought me some songbirds and fog

But it’ll be clear and it’ll be quiet before too long

I am no wanderer and I am not lost

I’m just fighting to stay in front of the frost

And these long roads I’ve traveled

I have travelled alone

I unravelled myself down to the bone

And I will let that dust settle

I will let them weeds grow

And when you see fresh tracks you’ll know I have gone

Yeah, when you see fresh tracks you’ll know I have gone
