I Could Tell

By Jeff Rolfzen & Rocky Steen-Rolfzen

I am further than your eyes can see

Because you’re so close to everything

You’ve learned to cherish and carry around our home

Now everything around is gray

It seems as though I’ve lost my way

Back to heaven and into your heart of gold

And when I got home I could tell that you’d been thinking

And I could tell

That you’d been drinking again

And so i slammed that bottle down

And poured myself a round

And washed my troubled thoughts away

It’s gonna be okay, it’s gonna be okay

Though I’m troubled and I need to

wash my thoughts away

She had never heard my words before

She had only heard me roar

Im mean when love and hearts are on the line

But now she’s all up inside your head

And she’s creeping up into my den

She’s hungry and she’s wanting to nibble a little on you

You pushed me out of the bed while you were sleeping

And I could tell that you were dreaming of her again

And so I slammed my pillow down

And laid there on the ground

And I shivered until the dawn

It’s gonna be okay, it’s gonna be okay

Though I’m troubled and I need to

wash my thoughts away

You hurt me so I hurt you so

I was burning up and so

I went out and stuck my flaming head in the snow

And darling it was so hard to let you go

And watch her touch your heart of gold

Now I’m leaving with my broken cold cold heart of coal

And when I stepped out of your door

I started sinking

So I stepped right into this bar and started drinking again

Bartender won’t you slam that bottle down

And pour us all a round

I’m troubled and need to wash my troubled thoughts away
